You can rent a canoe or kayak directly from our Canoë Dordogne base in Vitrac . We offer several routes suitable for all levels.

2. Do you need to book your canoe in advance?

Yes, especially in high season (July-August) ! We advise you to book online or by phone to guarantee your place.

3. What are the proposed routes?

We offer several canoe trips on the Dordogne :

  • Vitrac → Castelnaud (12 km / 2h30) : ideal for a family outing.
  • Vitrac → Beynac (16 km / 3 hours) : discovery of the most beautiful castles.
  • Carsac → Beynac (25 km / 4h30) : a full day of adventure.
  • 2 to 5 day canoe trips with bivouac.

4. Can we stop for a swim during the descent?

Yes, of course! The Dordogne is a calm and clean river , ideal for swimming. Many natural beaches allow you to take a break and cool off.

No! The Dordogne is a calm river , without rapids, ideal for families, beginners and children .

6. Do you need any particular physical condition to go canoeing?

No, our courses are accessible to everyone . No experience is necessary, you just need to know how to swim .

7. From what age can children go canoeing?

Children can go canoeing from the age of 5 , provided they know how to swim and wear a life jacket (provided).

8. Can you take your dog in a canoe?

Yes !Dogs are welcome on board for free. Just make sure they are comfortable with water.

9. What should I bring for a canoe trip?

We recommend bringing:
A swimsuit and light clothing
Water shoes or closed sandals
Sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
A bottle of water and a picnic
A waterproof bag to protect your phone and your belongings

10. What happens in case of bad weather?

In case of moderate rain, the descents are maintained. In case of severe weather or flooding , we will postpone your reservation.

11. How does the return work after the descent?

Upon arrival, a free return shuttle will take you back to your vehicle parked at our base. Departures take place every hour .

12. Can we picnic on the Dordogne?

Yes! There are many natural beaches where you can stop for a picnic by the river.

13. When is the best time to canoe in the Dordogne?

The ideal season is from May to September , with pleasant temperatures and optimal water flow.

14. How many people can fit in a canoe?

Our canoes can accommodate 2 to 3 adults or 2 adults + 1 or 2 children depending on the size . The kayaks are designed for 1 person .

15. Can you go on a canoe trip for several days?

Yes, we offer canoe trips on the Dordogne lasting 2 to 5 days with bivouacs or overnight camping .

16. Are there campsites along the Dordogne for a canoe trip?

Yes, several campsites located on the river banks allow you to spend the night comfortably.
